At 2:16 a.m., officers spotted a silver Jeep traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Route 206 near Acorn Street, Byram Township police said in a release. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver, Sara Pesantes did not stop, police said.. Pesantes continued driving at a low rate of speed, swerving between both southbound lanes and accelerating erratically, police said.
Three of the vehicle’s tires were flat and the rims were heavily damaged, police said. As the vehicle slowed to a near stop, patrol pulled up and verbally ordered Pesantes to pull over and stop the vehicle, police said.
Pesantes attempted to rapidly accelerate away but was unsuccessful due to the vehicles’ three flat tires limiting the vehicles’ speed, police said. After nearly striking a vehicle head-on, Pesantes pulled into a Dunkin' parking lot, police said.
Pesantes was asked to perform several standardized field sobriety tests, which she failed, police said. Pesantes was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, careless driving and driving the wrong way on a one way street, police said.
